The Nuclear Skills Delivery Board (NSDB) met in Derby on 22 and 23 June 2026, bringing together senior representatives from government and prime civil and defence nuclear organisations at the Rolls‑Royce Raynesway site and Nuclear Skills Academy for a firsthand look at how the Nuclear Skills Plan is being delivered in practice, as well as combining the Board meeting with a focused workshop on the Nuclear Regulatory Review. 

NSDB members discussed how to best respond to the findings of the Nuclear Regulatory Review with recommendation 39 calling for accelerated action to build knowledge, experience and skills across a diverse workforce. In the session, members confirmed their commitment to responding to the Review, identified opportunities to strengthen collaboration, and developed a shared approach to integrating new and existing activity within the Nuclear Skills Plan.  

Following the formal NSDB meeting, members toured the Nuclear Skills Academy - a collaboration between Rolls Royce, the University of Derby and government - which funds 200 apprentices each year with nuclear education and hands-on experience across four different courses.  

Hearing directly from apprentices about their fantastic experiences in the Academy, from welding to nuclear research, was a highlight of the visit and reinforced the importance of the Nuclear Skills Plan’s focus on developing a workforce equipped with the skills needed for the future.
