On 20th May, the Nuclear Skills Executive Council (NSEC) met to review and discuss progress delivering the Nuclear Skills Plan and collaborate on collective efforts to grow the UK’s nuclear workforce.
The Council, made up of senior executives from prime civil and defence nuclear organisations and chaired by Director Generals in the Department for Energy and Net Zero and the Ministry of Defence, discussed and agreed actions to drive forward the next phase of the Nuclear Skills Plan and reaffirmed their commitment to the plan’s delivery.
Following the meeting, the NSEC members came together with members of the Nuclear Skills Delivery Board, Nuclear Sector Skills Team and representatives from organisations that help deliver the Nuclear Skills Plan, to celebrate the successes delivered in the two years since the NSEC signed the Nuclear Skills Charter and the Plan was published in May 2024.
Guests heard from 5 people who have benefitted from the Nuclear Skills Plan’s work: two apprentice welders at Rolls Royce Submarines; a student studying for a degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering as part of the Nuclear Sponsorship Scheme; a project management graduate on the nuclear graduate scheme, and a doctoral student with the Saturn Centre for Doctoral Training at the University of Manchester, which was funded by the Nuclear Skills Plan.
The beneficiaries spoke about their rewarding work in the nuclear sector and the exciting opportunities they’ve experienced in the industry, and encouraged others to find out more about potential careers in the nuclear sector at Destination Nuclear.
