1. Boosting training capacity
We're coordinating resources, contracts and structures to increase the training capacity available to the nuclear sector. This includes addressing trainer availability and making it easier for everyone to understand what services are available for development.
By working together across organisations, we can make better use of existing training resources and identify where we need to invest in new ones.
2. Standardising career paths
Ever felt frustrated that skills and qualifications don't transfer easily between nuclear organisations? We're tackling that by standardising career paths, role profiles and associated qualifications.
This work is focused on reducing the need to retrain when moving between organisations, particularly in critical skills areas where we can't afford to lose talent or time.
3. Regional approach to education
Each nuclear region has unique educational needs and opportunities. We're working at a regional level to understand the supply and demand for educational requirements and fill any existing gaps.
Our Regional Skills Hubs in the North West, South West, Midlands and Scotland are helping to coordinate this work, bringing together employers and education providers to address regional priorities.
Why it matters
Optimising our training landscape is about more than just efficiency - it's about creating a more joined-up nuclear sector where:
- Skills and qualifications are recognised across organisations
- Training is more accessible and targeted to actual needs
- People can move more easily between different parts of the sector
- Organisations can collaborate rather than compete for training resources
- Regional strengths and needs are properly addressed
Part of our investment commitment
This work forms a key part of our commitment in the Nuclear Skills Charter to "invest in the existing workforce." Specifically, nuclear organisations have committed to:
"Optimise training capacity and capability by sharing both facilities and course content, and standardising curriculums where there is commonality."
Working Together
The success of this project depends on collaboration across the sector. If you're involved in nuclear training – whether as a provider, employer or learner – we'd love to hear your insights and experiences.
