Mobilising talent across the nuclear sector

Would you like to experience different parts of the nuclear world without changing jobs permanently? The Nuclear Interchange Hub is here to make that happen.

What is Interchange all about?

We've set up the Nuclear Interchange Hub to help people move between different organisations in our nuclear community. Think of it as building bridges to let talent flow more freely throughout the sector.

Whether you're working in civil or defence nuclear, the Interchange programme opens doors to new experiences and connections. It's all about giving people the chance to have more varied careers while strengthening the links between different parts of our nuclear family.

As part of the Nuclear Skills Charter, organisations across the sector have promised to "generate opportunities for secondments and interchange that offer more opportunities across the whole of our sector." We're making good on that promise through this initiative.

For organisations

If you're running a nuclear business or part of the supply chain, Interchange offers your organisation some brilliant opportunities:

  • Share expertise across organisational boundaries
  • Keep talent within the nuclear sector by offering varied experiences
  • Build stronger working relationships with other nuclear organisations
  • Help address skills gaps through flexible approaches to resourcing
  • Contribute to the sector's overall goal of growing our nuclear workforce

For individuals

Already working in nuclear? The Interchange programme could be your ticket to new and exciting experiences:

  • Try out different areas of the nuclear sector while staying part of the community
  • Develop your skills through exposure to different working environments
  • Make connections that could benefit your career for years to come
  • Find new passion within the nuclear world
  • Be part of building a stronger, more connected nuclear community

The Nuclear Interchange Hub - how it works

Our Nuclear Interchange Hub has been created specifically to build these cross-sector connections. It's focused on making placements happen that benefit everyone involved.

The Hub works by:

  • Creating opportunities for people to move between organisations
  • Promoting mobility through structured placements
  • Building meaningful connections between civil and defence nuclear
  • Helping people develop more varied and fulfilling nuclear careers

Part of the bigger picture

The Interchange initiative is one of fifteen key projects in our National Nuclear Strategic Plan for Skills. Together, these projects aim to address our sector's most pressing challenge: filling 40,000 new roles by 2030.

By enabling people to experience different parts of the sector, we're not just developing individuals - we're strengthening the entire nuclear community and making it a more attractive place to build a career.
