General information

This privacy notice explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data when you visit the Nuclear Skills Plan website. The site is managed by the Ministry of Defence and has been developed with support from our external provider Cogent Ltd.

The site is designed to inform the nuclear sector about Nuclear Skills Plan activities and signpost ways to engage and support the initiative. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your information in a transparent and lawful way.

Please note this notice refers to your personal data, this is any information that could be used to identify you personally.

The Nuclear Skills Plan is part of a joint enterprise between the Ministry of Defence (MOD), the Department for Energy, Security, and Net Zero and industry partners.

The Nuclear Skills Plan is led by the Nuclear Skills Executive Council, whose members consist of the Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO), the Department for Energy, Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA), the Royal Navy, Great British Energy – Nuclear, Rolls-Royce Defence, UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), UK National Nuclear Laboratory (UKNNL), Babcock International, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), EDF, and BAE Systems.

The MOD is the data controller of your personal data.

Why are we processing your data?

We process your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To respond to queries submitted through the Contact Us form.
  • To analyse website usage and engagement to measure interest in the Nuclear Skills Plan (e.g. page views, time on site, referral traffic).
  • To support communication and engagement with organisations and individuals interested in the Plan.

Our legal basis for processing your personal data.

We will only use your personal information when the law allows us to. Most commonly, we will use your personal information in the following circumstances:

  • where the processing is necessary for the MOD’s official purposes as a government body in accordance with the lawful basis of public task under Article 6 (e) of the UK GDPR.
  • where we have obtained your informed consent under Article 6(a) of the UK GDPR. For example, when we use cookies and similar technologies to analyse website usage. You can withdraw your consent at any time via the cookie settings.

With whom we will be sharing your personal data.

We may share your personal data with authorised third parties who provide services on our behalf.

All our third-party service providers are required to take appropriate security measures to protect your personal information in line with our policies.

We do not allow our third-party service providers to use your personal data for their own purposes. We only permit them to process your personal data for specified purposes and in accordance with our instructions. For example, image and video capture at events for use on our website.

For how long we will keep the personal data?

We will only retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for.

After the retention period, has elapsed all data will be destroyed securely in line with MOD data destruction policy.

What are your rights?

Under Data Protection legislation you have the following individual rights with regards to your personal data:

  • The right to be informed about the collection and use of your personal data.
  • The right of access your personal data and supplementary information
  • The right to have inaccurate personal data rectified, or completed if it is incomplete.
  • The right to erasure (to be forgotten) in certain circumstances.
  • The right to restrict processing in certain circumstances.
  • The right to data portability, which allows you to obtain and reuse your personal data for your own purposes across different services.
  • The right to object to processing in certain circumstances.
  • Rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling.
  • The right to withdraw consent (where relevant)
  • Right to complain to the information Commissioner

Transfer of personal data to other countries

Your personal data will not be sent overseas.

Automated decision making

Your personal data will not be used for any automated decision making.

How we store personal data

Your personal data is stored in a secure government Information Technology system, and on the secure systems of our contracted website provider, Cogent Ltd.

We have put in place appropriate technical and organisational measures to prevent your personal information from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed.
