Last week, on 26th and 27th November, the Nuclear Skills Delivery Board visited Babcock’s Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth.
The Board, made up of senior representatives from prime civil and defence nuclear organisations, came together for a strategy session to drive forward delivery of the Nuclear Skills Plan and collaborate on collective efforts to grow the UK’s nuclear workforce.
The Board also toured the Devonport site, including the state-of-of-the-art Supacat Jackal High Mobility Transporter production facility and a rare opportunity to visit HMS Trafalgar, a decommissioned Trafalgar-class submarine that is currently being prepared for defueling.
Visiting the site and speaking with individuals directly impacted by the work of the Nuclear Skills Plan demonstrated how the efforts of everyone involved contribute to supporting the national endeavour and securing the future of the UK’s defence nuclear industry.
Mark Rouse, Skills Director, reflected on the visit:
“Seeing first-hand the dedication and expertise at Devonport underscores how vital a skilled workforce is to the UK’s nuclear endeavour and national security. The Nuclear Skills Plan’s collaborative efforts ensure we’re building the talent and resilience needed to tackle the workforce challenges faced by the UK’s nuclear sector.”
Thank you to Babcock for hosting and organising the logistics for the day.
