Growing a workforce for the future of nuclear

Building skills, experience, and a workforce for the future of nuclear.

Introduction

Apprenticeships are one of the most exciting ways to start a career in nuclear. They're hands-on, practical career opportunities that give you the chance to earn a proper wage while gaining valuable qualifications. And with the Nuclear Skills Plan committing to double the number of apprentices in the sector by 2025/26, there's never been a better time to explore an apprenticeship in nuclear!

For employers, apprenticeships offer a brilliant way to grow your own talent, bring fresh thinking into your organisation, and contribute to the sector's future workforce. Whether you're a large company or an SME in the supply chain, apprentices can help build the capabilities your business needs.

Our Commitment

As part of the Nuclear Skills Plan, the sector has committed to doubling the number of apprentices entering the nuclear workforce by academic year 2025/26. We're well on our way, with over 2,500 apprentices joining in 2024/25 alone!

This commitment means more opportunities for individuals and more support for employers offering apprenticeships. Through collaboration across the sector, we're:

  • Creating new apprenticeship standards that meet industry needs
  • Developing shared training resources and facilities
  • Supporting smaller employers to offer apprenticeships
  • Building clearer pathways from apprenticeships to further career development
