The UK's nuclear sector stands at a pivotal moment of growth and opportunity. With ambitious plans for new power plants, expanded decommissioning activities, and sustaining our national security through the nuclear deterrent, we need to attract and retain talented people to the workforce.
The Nuclear Skills Plan brings together government, industry, and education providers in an unprecedented collaboration to develop the workforce needed for our nuclear future. As identified in the 2023 Nuclear Workforce Assessment, the sector will need 40,000 additional skilled workers by 2030 – and we're committed to making that happen through the Nuclear Skills Plan projects.
The Nuclear Skills Plan has set out ambitious targets to achieve through strategic projects, specifically planned around the critical requirements of the sector. We’re achieving steps towards these targets every year and continually analysing the impact our projects are making on the sector.
The Nuclear Skills Plan represents a landmark commitment by the UK's leading civil and defence nuclear organisations to collectively address our skills challenges. Together, we're creating pathways for talented individuals to join the sector, developing existing professionals, and building a workforce that's diverse, skilled and ready for the future.
The nuclear sector offers diverse and rewarding career opportunities across engineering, science, project management, skilled trades and much more. Join a sector that's vital to the UK's future – providing clean energy, supporting national security, and creating economic prosperity across the country.
